Marriage with a Korean
Posted by 🇧🇷 Julia Gulacsi on May 16, 2022 at 2:15 pmIn case I get married with a Korean how does the visa process work? Do we have to prove our relationship for some time as in the usa to get the green card? Can anybody tell me more about it?

Yes! Actually, it can be a little bit invasive. We had to show our messages to the immigration officer to prove we were able to communicate.
We also had to show pictures and social media posts from when we were dating and photos from our wedding and honeymoon. Then, they came to our house to make sure we were actually living together. They went through our closet and fridge a bit too.
Every year when I renew my visa they do the same, but not as thoroughly.
I don’t think the requirements are very strict for the timing of the relationship. I know a few people who were in a relationship for less than a year before getting married and getting a spouse visa. Honestly, a lot is left up to the interpretation of the individual immigration officer you are dealing with

Wow, interesting. It’s funny they even check social media posts to confirm the relationship. My boyfriend doesn’t use SNS and I posted some pics with him after we dated for 7 months lol

right?? I don’t post anything in the social media with my boyfriend but I guess I need to start doing so if I intend on having a visa later, we have been planning on marriage but who would have know it’s this hard T-T

Yes! It’s much more difficult than most people expect. Your spouse’s income and anything they own like cars or an apartment also come into play. So actually, getting married doesn’t always guarantee that you will qualify for a marriage visa.
I would say, start posting some stuff now, even if it’s on your stories. You can always take a screenshot of your story history.

Wow… that’s going to be a headache, I was planning on making our own instagram account but I wouldn’t imagine they were so thorough over it
