Baldur’s Gate 3 Introduces Hotfix Update 17: Enhancements to Performance, Save G
Baldur’s Gate 3 has launched Hotfix 17, a comprehensive update available on all platforms. This release addresses performance issues on the PS5, optimizes save game file sizes, and refines certain aspects of the game’s narrative flow. As the top-selling game on Steam in 2023 and the recipient of accolades such as Game of the Year 2023 at The Game Awards, Larian has successfully crafted a noteworthy sequel to Baldur’s Gate 2. While the developers acknowledged the significant benefits derived from the three-year Early Access period, the game’s attention to detail and craftsmanship remain impressive.
However, it’s crucial to acknowledge that Act 2, particularly Act 3, lacked the polish observed in Early Access content. Despite five major updates and the inclusion of the Epilogue in Patch 5, addressing technical issues has been an ongoing effort for Larian.
Xbox users, in particular, have faced persistent save game issues, prompting Microsoft to release firmware updates in attempts to resolve them. Hotfix 17, the latest update for Baldur’s Gate 3, focuses on saving games, addressing crashes, and refining an aspect related to Gale in early Act 1. Microsoft aims to address the Xbox save game issue on January 16, and all platforms stand to benefit from reduced file sizes, thanks to enhanced compression. The update also eliminates stored data that the game no longer uses, such as summons. Additionally, Gale, a key companion in Baldur’s Gate 3, undergoes improvements in how players can manage the situation. In Hotfix 17, players have more flexibility in handling Gale’s hunger for magical artifacts, ensuring he only leaves the party if their intention to feed him artifacts is explicitly clear.
