Analyst Predicts 8-Inch LCD Screen for Nintendo Switch 2
Details about Nintendo’s upcoming hardware have been scarce, leaving enthusiasts to rely on rumors, leaks, and insights from industry analysts. Recognizing the Switch’s immense success, industry experts anticipate the next console to be more of an “iteration” than a radical redesign.
In a potential revelation, renowned independent consultancy firm Omdia, through industry analyst Hiroshi Hayase, suggests that the successor to the Nintendo Switch will debut in late 2024 featuring an 8-inch LCD screen (reported by Bloomberg). Hayase, an authority in the display market, predicts that the console will double the shipments of “amusement displays” in 2024.
For handheld enthusiasts, the prospect of an LCD screen may not be ideal, as OLED screens, currently utilized in the latest Switch version, are objectively superior. With projections indicating a $400 launch price for the Switch successor, it’s speculated that Nintendo might opt for LCD screens to manage costs. Additionally, adopting an LCD screen initially allows Nintendo the flexibility to introduce a version with an OLED screen later without significant concerns about increased costs. While this strategy aims to attract a broader audience with an affordable system initially, it may disappoint Switch OLED owners who might have to adapt to an LCD screen once again.
